Deakin University - Content Hub

Deakin university needed to migrate the alumni communications from a printed magazine -‘dKin’, to an online content hub. In order to communicate, build and engage with its current audience in the most effective way.

Role

  • UX research assistance
  • User interface design

Context

Previous to my participation in the project a discovery phase was conducted. The research included:

  • Market research data insights
  • Collaborated workshops with the client to define the alumni segmentation for the dKin magazine
  • A service blueprint to identify gaps and opportunities.

The results of this research helped inform the creation of the information architecture (IA), content tags and articles categorisation used on the dKin hub.

The Approach

In the design phase, I assisted the senior UX researcher with the design pattern research and mobile wireframes, which were used for the interactive prototype on InVision. Then, the Interface was designed using placeholder images and key articles from the current magazine. The result was a user-friendly content hub built in Umbraco.

Visual Design

Key User Interface (UI) patterns
  • A filter set to interact on-page without detracting from the overall interactive experience
  • Easy login with Facebook to allow users to save articles in the bookmark section.
  • Hub cards featuring imagery, interesting headlines and short overviews to grab user attention
  • Articles tags aligned with the content pillars

Outcome

An interactive customer-first solution tied together CRM, social insight and strategy.
